Red VCSEL workable at
the high temperature was developed and started mass production by Optowell Co.,
Ltd
 Advancing VCSEL manufacturer Optowell Co.,
Ltd (www.optowell.com) finished
development the Red VCSEL and put it into the market. So far in the VCSEL market, invisible
infrared (IR) wavelength, for example 780nm, 850nm, and 980 nm, products are
used as a main item for optical communication, free space optics, Laser
printer, Laser mouse and Sensing. Visible Red VCSEL has a problem that the
output optical power drops radically at the high temperature. This is why IR
wavelength VCSELs are preferred than that of the Red VCSEL. Visible Red VCSEL of 670nm wavelength
developed by Optowell has most remarkable temperature ranges. It has overcome
the temperature limit and could be workable to the 60 degree. Adding up its strong point such as the circular beam
characteristics, 10times lower power consumption and possibility for small
package than edge emitting laser (LD), the visual effect could make it to be
adapted for more various commercial industries. For example Plastic Optical
Fiber (POF) transmission, visible laser mouse, low power consumption portable
medical devices, low power consumption Opto-Electronic
devices, position sensor, laser pointer without aspherical lens, Bar-code
scanner and high speed and high resolution laser printer. Because the Red VCSEL
developed by Optowell has linear polarized characteristics, which is inherent
characteristics of LD, the Red VCSEL of Optowell could replace the existing red
LD. Moreover it could be expected to be adapted for the high level optical
applications because of longitudinal single wavelength characteristics.
